Is Being Lazy Worth It?- Self Driving Shuttle Crashes in Vegas

Kaitlyn Glass, Editor in Chief

Less than two hours after the self-driving shuttle launched on November 8, the driver-less bus collided with a semi-truck in front of dozens of spectators. Luckily, no one was injured but this could cause future problems with the new operations.

The semi had been going in reverse… self-driving vehicles cannot do this. According to the passengers, the accident was not the shuttles fault, but the truck driver’s fault. The shuttle stopped when it was supposed to while the driver kept going in reverse eventually scraping the front bumper. These cars max out at 25mph and only get to 15mph with passengers, which only seats eight. On the brighter side, the shuttle continued to be in use even after the crash.

There are many other projects going on across America with self-driving, computer-operated vehicles. Whether they will be launched anytime soon is still being determined.
