Lil Peep, formally known as Gustav Ahr, was an up and coming rapper that unfortunately has just recently passed on Wednesday night, November 15th 2017, on account of an overdose of the anti-anxiety drug, Xanax. Rumors have emerged that the drug, given to Peep by a fan, was laced with chemicals that even in relatively low dosages can be fatal. Currently there is much speculation as to whether or not the fan that gave Peep these drugs can be prosecuted because of the fact that he willingly accepted them.

The first news of Peeps condition came about on twitter as it was confirmed that Peep was being hospitalized and would hopefully make a quick recovery. Sadly, Peeps condition worsened as the night went on, and just as the Twitter Hashtag “PrayForPeep” began to trend it was soon confirmed by Peep’s manager that he had passed. Almost as soon as Peep’s death was confirmed many rappers, big and small, began to tweet their sympathies including but not limited to “Lil Pump” “Lil Yacthy” and “Lil B/ The Based God.” Many fans, including myself, were very distraught seeing as how Peep was scheduled to perform a concert at the Observatory in Santa Ana just one night after his untimely death.

Throughout Peep’s career he released various mix tapes, albums, and singles that blended Gothic elements with Hip-Hop and Rock, soon leading to a revival of what is now referred to as “Emo Trap”. He released the majority of his music through the online streaming service Soundcloud, which is where he initially built up his extremely loyal fan base.

Although Peep was only 21 he had already managed to live a very full and successful life, managing to not only rise through the ranks of Soundcloud rappers, but also effectively reviving a genre of music that was seemingly dead. However, there was so much more that he could have done and there is absolutely no doubt that he will be dearly missed by friends, family, and fans alike.
