There’s a reason that listeners seem to get more impatient every year for the Christmas music season to start: Nothing else feels quite like it.

There have been classics that have dated back to the 40s. People have been singing about Christmas for almost as long as it’s been celebrated. 

Now that it’s December, one of the most special holidays is right around the corner. So here are the top 10 Christmas songs of all time.

At number 10 on the billboard 100 is Donny Hathaway, “This Christmas” (1970). “This Christmas” is a sweet and joyful song about the traditions that happen during Christmas. Donny Hathaway is telling everyone to be nice to each other and to spread happiness during this holiday season.

 

At number 9 on the billboard 100 is Bruce Springsteen, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” (1982).  “Santa Claus is coming to Town”   features copious bells, a festive sax solo, and America’s Dad riffing on how everyone in the audience is in trouble for not being good this year. This song will get you in the mood for Christmas and crack a smile.

 

At number 8 on the billboard 100 is Run-D.M.C., “Christmas in Hollis” (1987) The song’s not exactly tougher than leather, but it’s hip-hop soul in the Christmas hits. This song is funny and will cracka smile.

 

At number 7 on the billboard 100 is José Feliciano, “Feliz Navidad” (1970). Jose gave us what he calls the first bilingual Christmas song but it’s a classic and will always be on my playlist.

 

At number 6 on the billboard 100 is Brenda Lee, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (1958) is also another classic that will always be remembered.

At number 5 on the billboard 100 is Bing Crosby, “White Christmas” (1947) is a classic that sold over 50 million copies worldwide and is the biggest single of all time.

 

At number 4 on the billboard 100 is Wham!, “Last Christmas” (1984) is a classic that’s a heartbreak Christmas song. This song is iconic in so many ways.

 

At number 3 on the billboard 100 is Nat King Cole, “The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)” (1961). This song makes you want to warm up with some hot chocolate with a fire nearby. This song is a classic.

 

At number 2 on the billboard 100 is Darlene Love, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” (1963).  Is a love song that Spector is begging her love to come home for the holidays. 

At number 1 on the billboard 100 is Mariah Carey, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (1994). This song is iconic in so many ways. This is many people’s favorite song and gets them in the mood for a festive holiday.
