The SAG-AFTRA Strike that started in mid-July of this year has left many people in the entertainment industry unremunerated. SAG-AFTRA is supposed to help actors get the income they are owed to reuse their work. That was not able to happen since the strike was put into action. SAG-AFTRA is known for being a very successful American labor union that represents around 160,000 media professionals worldwide. The strike had been going on because the union decided not to pay raises to performers. This is the reason why the release of films was put on hold. Many people took to social media to express their opinions on the strike.
Many people who are a part of SAG-AFTRA were angry and disappointed that they were not being paid for their work. Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter were filled with information and opinions on the strike and how actors were being affected during the strike. The strike affected many shows and movies like Stranger Things, Deadpool, SNL, Mission Impossible, and many others. The strike officially ended on September 27th, and writers can now return to writing for shows and movies. Stranger Things writers recently confirmed that they have been able to start writing again. This is positive confirmation because, as of before the last couple of weeks, actors have been unable to promote their projects.
The strike has caused more interruptions than COVID in 2020. This made many people protest, and many writers and actors walked out for the first time in 1960. Over 45,000 people have lost their jobs over this strike. 6.5 Billion dollars have been lost in Southern California due to the writer’s strike. The strike was said to be reaching its final stage, but it still looks like it will be a long process to end this strike officially.
