People’s Magazine has officially declared this year’s choice for Sexiest Man Alive, and it’s John Krasinski!
With the 45-year-old actor visiting the CBS studio, the news was revealed on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on November 12th, where John Krasinski wasn’t exactly sure what to think when he got the word that he was being crowned People’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.
He tells the magazine in that cover story, “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be the Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.” He also described how his wife reacted when she learned he would be the newest Sexiest Man Alive, suggesting they wallpaper their house with his cover.
However, with the magazine honoring him with this title in 2024, the internet has raised some serious questions, creating division and controversies about whether he deserved it or not.
The highly sought-after position of Sexiest Man Alive has existed for decades. However, people are sometimes disappointed with the winner because not everyone has the same taste. So, with Krasinski being the winner for 2024, many social media users expressed disappointment once more over the selection. Most believe it’s not a particularly bad decision, but others think it is truly confusing. This could be because he has hardly ever been asked to exhibit any sex appeal throughout his career. Perhaps his most enduring performance to date was playing the witty and charming Jim Halpert on The Office over ten years ago. Since then, he has received the most female attention on social media while appearing on the red carpet with his wife, actress Emily Blunt.
Furthermore, 2024 isn’t exactly his year for being hot on the outside, mostly because he was behind the scenes in the industry since he produced A Quiet Place: Day One and directed the children’s movie IF. According to Metro.co many social media users have stated that he was “hideous” and the “most average-looking man.” They also said, “Who is picking these men,” and “They could’ve chosen someone better.” One user even claimed the magazine intentionally made controversial choices to increase publicity. Across the media, no matter who wins, people will always stir conflict. Various websites will post articles after the announcement, making lists of celebrities that would be a better option than John Krasinski.
Despite some of these statements, many believe he was worthy of achieving this title. Martha Stewart defended John Krasinksi by stating, “He’s been over to my house, and he’s pretty sexy. ” She added that he “is pretty good at all the work he does, too.”
If being named the sexiest man alive in 2024 has any significance at all, what does it mean? And why are we still so invested every year? Most people think that this felt like a typical (straight white) woman’s taste, where it is believed that a star was frequently in control of the box office to receive this title as well as the cover being the best way for “it” guys to advertise.
No matter how pointless the topic has grown, People’s Magazine has succeeded in increased publicity and a good hollow debate.
