On November 15th, retired 58-year-old Mike Tyson, who is regarded as one of the best boxers of all time, and 27-year-old boxer and YouTuber Jake Paul fought in the ring on live television.
The outcome of Jake Paul winning the fight has surprised a few fans. A recent article by Tim Lammers says, “Paul defeated Tyson by decision after going all eight rounds in a live Netflix event on November 15”. Jake had won the fight by unanimous decision
This was one of the most anticipated fights in a long time because both fighters are very well-known, but the fight is arguably peculiar. Tyson is 58, Paul is 27, Tyson started as a boxer, Paul started as a YouTuber, etc.
Training
Tyson and Paul underwent many months of training, as we can see on their social media accounts leading up to the fight. According to this website by Kyle Hunt, Tyson’s routine consisted of “2,500 situps, 2,000 air squats, 500 pushups, 500 bench dips, 500 barbell shrugs, and ten minutes of bridges six days a week.” This is insanely impressive and clear hard work; however, that’s not even the full routine. His routine also consisted of “waking up at 4 a.m., lacing up his shoes, and go for a 3-5 mile job around Catskill, New York”, and so much more. Jake Paul also went through If we take a look at this website by Andrew Gutman: “He says he trains twice a day, five to six days a week. His first session is focused on boxing drills, footwork, and sparring, with a second session for strength and conditioning or track work.” As we can see here, both of the figures were dedicated to winning the fight through hard training.
Interviews
There was great heat between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson leading up to the match, which we can see in some interviews and their weigh-ins. One example is when we see Mike Tyson slapping Jake Paul. Tyson claims he did this because Paul had stepped on his foot, “possibly intentionally,” says Michael Baritromo. Mike Tyson states, “I was in a lot of pain. I had to reciprocate.”. Jake Paul’s response to this slap was, “...I thought that was a cute slap, buddy, but tomorrow you’re gonna get knocked the **** out.” Later on, he shouted, “It’s personal now! He must die!”. There was much intenseness between the two before the fight, which just hyped the fans up even more. It was a battle between two eras, with hype and attention surrounding it like crazy. The hype lasted from March 2024, which was when it was announced, all the way till Friday, November 15, when the fight occurred, and even a couple of days after, it was still the thing everyone was talking about. This fight was one that people will arguably remember for a while.
