On October 30, The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series! This tie-breaking game left many Dodger fans on the edge of their seats as they took home the win against the Yankees.
The Dodgers were down 5-0 before scoring five runs in the fifth inning. New York regained the lead in the sixth inning, which caused many fans to believe the Yankees would take the World Series to Game 6. But by surprise, New York sacrifice flies from Gavin Lux and Mookie Betts during the top of the eighth inning led the Los Angeles Dodgers to victory.
The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t have achieved this without the help of MVP Freddie Freeman. According to ESPN, Freddie underwent ankle surgery, but that didn’t prevent him from playing in the World Series. In Game 1, Freeman made history with his World Series’ first walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning, and he didn’t stop there. As reported by MLB News, Freddie tied the World Series record by driving 12 runs in just five games!
Now let’s hear from the World Series MVP: Freddie Freeman, about his spectacular performance!
Freddie Freeman discusses how he coped with his injuries and the World Series win. “Those days off in between, as I’ve said, were huge. I felt like an NLDS in the NLCS; there was a fence, and I was always on the other side of it. Trying to get rid of the pain and my ankle swelling on that all down. I could never just get in front of it, and those few days helped me get on this side of the fence. It got me in a great spot where I could work on my swing, and those few days, I found a queue, and it worked.”
Here is a selection of the Post-World Series Interviews.
Teoscar Hernández spoke about the fifth inning,“ We just took advantage of every mistake they made in that inning. We put some good at-bats together. We put the ball in play. You know a lot of people say, ‘When you put the ball in play things might happen.’ It happened to us in that inning, and we scored five runs.” Teoscar also spoke about how it feels after winning a World Series. “It’s a dream come true, obviously I’m really happy to be a part of this. This is amazing. I’m feeling great. It’s just so many things that I feel right now.”
The Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, shared a few words about his team’s victory. “I cannot believe what just happened. That’s what makes a fall classic a classic, right? Because the stars come out, and superstars make big plays and get big hits in the biggest of moments. Two outs, bases loaded, they bring on the lefty, and Freddie, as we know, has been ailing over the last few weeks. You could probably argue that it might be one of the biggest hits he’s ever had in his 2200-hit career. I’m speechless right now.”
