In the new digital age of social media, memes are “life.” Anyone can go viral on any platform if they’re funny enough, regardless of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, color, and even political background. Especially from a political background…Research shows that politicians now use memes and social media to win favor amongst the new generation and reach their targeted audiences. Whether they make them themselves or are unfortunately targeted Gen Z, ranging from Obama to Trump, here are the top 15 funniest political memes:
- Kamala HQ
The infamous Kamala HQ. During the 2024 presidential elections, democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris gathered a group of Gen-Z democratic management majors and started an incredibly viral account. Even some republicans couldn’t deny how hilarious the account was.
- “Do you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?”– Taken out of context when Kamala made this remark about her childhood, her PR team juiced it entirely by making even merch out of it!
- Donald Trump
Donald J. Trump is running for his second presidential term as president-elect of the 2024-2028 term from the Republican Party. He has some of the most hysterically funny memes about him.
-
- Biden vs. Trump– Everybody knows Gen Z is highly unserious, even in serious situations. However, from spicy to sweet, some took it to write about and conspired when Biden dropped out of the elections.
- “They’re eating the dogs, They’re eating the cats!”– During one of his
campaigns, President Trump took it upon himself to explain in extremely inaccurate ways that immigrants were “harming” the country. During this campaign, he stated that immigrants enjoyed eating domesticated animals and their pets. Of course, many were enraged by this statement, but some decided to approach a more humorous take, making a catchy remix.
-
- “Orange”- Many took to social media to point out Donald Trump’s multiple shades of orange, as in a debate video, his neck and face seemed to be completely different shades. It made edits on the Sabrina Carpenter song “Please, Please, Please,” begging him to use a more suitable shade.
Joe Biden
Our last president, Joe Biden, received a lot of empathy from Gen-Z due to his looks, age, and possible dementia.
- “Sleepy Joe” is what Gen Z referred to him as due to his ability to fall asleep almost everywhere, most of the time during his run.
- “Grandpa Joe”—Gen Z had a soft spot for Joe Biden, as he was, to many, like a grandfather due to his looks and age. Whenever he would slip out or speak plain gibberish, many would take to social media to express how sad they felt for him and how Trump was being very “mean” to him during debates.
- Thirst traps- The moment someone got their hands on a picture of Joe Biden from the 1970s, it was over. Photos of the man shirtless and whatnot were plastered all across social media to Bo Burnham’s “1985”, a song typically used to post people’s attractive parents in the 1900s.
As we evolve, and so does the digital age, it’s becoming clear that social media is a big part of everyone’s life, whether it be Kamala’s PR meme-savvy team, Donald Trump’s unintentional memes, or Joe Biden’s thirst traps!
