Have you ever wanted to try out what it’s like working with clay and the art of ceramics? Well, now is your chance. Join the Mud Sharks, a ceramics club here at Santiago High School. If you have ever wanted to try making things out of clay, now is the time. The Mud Sharks club is dedicated to helping students express their emotions by creating new things from clay. If you already know how to work with clay, thanks, great; but don’t worry if you don’t. The Mud Sharks club members accept any new members to join, even if they do not have prior experience working with ceramics. The club was not designed for professionals. Instead, the club welcomes beginners and people who have never tried ceramics. It’s an excellent opportunity to try it out for the first time; the club meetings will teach you the basics, so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you don’t know how to do something.
Here are a few words that the founder and the leader of the Mud Sharks club, Elliot Diaz, has to say about the mission of her club: “Well, we want to educate students about the art of ceramics as well as how to express yourself through a physical means such as clay. During our club meetings, we like to do smaller, simpler things that are easier to teach students because many students haven’t taken a ceramics class before and still need to learn some introductory skills.”
Why should people join your club?
“I want people to join because for many people, including myself, art is a really significant form of expression, and the more that you can express yourself, I think the happier people will be. And if you have struggles outside of school, or even in school, like academic hardships or even hardships in your life, creating art and forgetting about those things through art makes life a lot simpler.”
Why is this club important to you?
“I think that, again, the club is about ceramics, but more importantly, it’s about creating art and expression and conveying how you feel through something physical. Different than painting or drawing, but all in all, just the same as art.”
Nevertheless, whether you’re stressed out and want to find something that will help you relax or want to try out what it’s like to work with clay, the Mud Sharks Ceramics Club is perfect. Meetings are not mandatory, so you can try them out whenever you want and continue participating in the club meetings if it seems like something you are interested in continuing. So, if this seems interesting to you and you are thinking of attending a meeting, visit room P109 during office hours on Thursdays and Fridays.
