Jillian Lauren, a writer and spouse of Weezer bassist, was shot and wounded by Los Angeles police and taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after she aimed a gun at officers from her front lawn during a manhunt for a hit-and-run suspect in the Eagle Rock area on Tuesday, officials reported. The 51-year-old Lauren, who police identified as Jillian Shriner and recorded as Jillian Lauren Shriner in jail documents, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening following the shooting in the northeast Los Angeles area of Eagle Rock on Thursday, according to a statement from LAPD. Her representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. There is no indication that Scott Shriner was involved in the incident. So this whole incident won’t affect her husband, and Weezer is still scheduled to play at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday. Authorities reported that they were helping California Highway Patrol agents in their pursuit of three individuals involved in a misdemeanor hit-and-run incident. The suspects fled into the adjacent Eagle Rock area west of Pasadena. A person of interest was spotted leaving behind a residence on Waldo Place — the cul-de-sac where Lauren resides. When officers arrived at the backyard of a residence where the suspect had been spotted, they noticed a woman, subsequently identified as Lauren, carrying a pistol in an adjacent yard. Lauren was not included in the list of suspects. However, while chasing one of them who was allegedly running through a backyard, police discovered Lauren in the front yard of her adjacent property, holding a handgun. It’s said that LAPD ordered her several times to drop the gun, but she refused and pointed i
t at them, police allege. They did not say whether she fired the gun, but said she was hit by police gunfire and fled into her home, where they took her into custody, and then took her to a hospital. Her injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening. A 9-millimeter handgun was taken from Shriner’s home, the police stated. According to LA County jail records, she was later booked and released after posting a $1 million bond.
Lauren has yet to appear in court, and it is not immediately known if she has retained legal counsel. There was no quick reply to an email sent to her manager or the message left on her author’s website. An email requesting a comment from a Weezer representative also received no response. Lauren has written two bestselling memoirs: “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem,” published in 2010, and “Everything You Ever Wanted,” released in 2015. Weezer is a band from Los Angeles famous for their 1994 album informally referred to as the “Blue Album,” which includes tracks like “Say It Ain’t So” and “Buddy Holly.” Shriner joined the band in the early 2000s. Lauren and Shriner married in 2005, and they have two children.
One of the three hit-and-run suspects was found, cited by the CHP, and released. More will be known soon.
