What’s Wrong With Jae of Day6?
February 15, 2022
Jae Park of former Day6 fame has created quite a stir in the past few weeks, from his supposed “departure” from the group (his former company, JYP Entertainment, stated that Jae left both the company and the band; Jae himself stated that he only officially left the company and that his departure from the group is only temporary) to the controversy surrounding him after using a derogatory term to refer to soloist and former labelmate Jamie Park. The past few weeks have been something for him, with not much of it being good. Here’s an overall timeline of everything that’s occurred.
January 1st, 2022: Jae’s departure is announced from JYPE/clarified by Jae himself:
Right at the start of the new year, K-Pop fans were given some news from JYP Entertainment that Jae would be leaving the company and Day6 and that his contract would be terminated for “personal reasons”. Some people were surprised to hear the news, but despite the shock, most Day6 fans figured that something like this would happen eventually, for Jae had been pretty vocal about his dislike for his treatment under the company. Although that doesn’t sound too out of the ordinary, things get a little more confusing from here. Later on in the same day, Jae went live on Twitch to clarify the situation to MyDays (Day6’s fanbase). In the stream, he confirmed that he had indeed left the company and the band, but while his departure from the company is permanent, his departure from the band is only temporary. He stated that he talked to the rest of the group and told fans to trust him and the rest of the group. How will this play out? Only time will tell.
January 8th, 2022 to January 11th, 2022: Jae calling Jamie a “thot”, Jamie’s reaction, and Jae’s online apology:
Not too long after his departure was announced, Jae was put into a sticky situation after a clip from a recent Twitch stream had started going around. In the clip, Jae calls Jamie a thot, something that he said he could say since he wasn’t in the K-Pop industry anymore. He then proceeds to laugh and told people to tell her he said that, justifying his statement by stating, “your posting of this kind of picture with these kinds of poses – that makes me believe that you are perfectly described under that description of what I just said.” This didn’t sit well with fans, but it might not have blown up too horribly if Jamie had regarded his statement as a joke…which she didn’t.
After seeing the clip, Jamie posted a few now-deleted tweets that read the following: “A what? Just remember how much I cared about you even before you were in your last company and how many times [I asked] if you were alright. I prayed for you. Your questions were like mine. It’s really sad”. After deleting those tweets, she proceeded to tweet out, “I’m just deleting it, I’m okay”, followed by “I hate that we as women have to be subjected to men’s humor to appease incels on the internet period” about half an hour later.
Jae later sent out an apology while addressing the situation on Twitter. “What I thought was friendly banter I now realize wasn’t”, he wrote. “In no way was I referencing any kind of physical behavior or energy (trying to take a slight at Jamie) but rather the aura of what people refer to as a ‘baddie’ and thought the two were synonymous, however, I do understand that this is in no way an excuse for my comment. My sincerest apologies to Jamie as well as to everyone who was hurt by it.”
The majority of the people who saw the apology weren’t willing to accept it, with many believing that he only apologized because he got caught (based on previous actions he’s done before). A good amount of people in the replies expressed their disappointment in him, stating that he needs to reflect on his actions more as well as apologize to Jamie in person, not just on Twitter.

January 10th, 2022 to January 20th, 2022: Jae personally apologized to Jamie + their discussion of the issue:
Not too long after apologizing on Twitter, Jae held another Twitch stream to address the controversy, where he mentioned that he had texted and called Jamie right after the infamous stream to apologize for his comments. It was then, he said, that he fully understood the severity of what he’d done. “I don’t think I understood the gravity of the situation until I texted Jamie the night off,” he explained. “I was like ‘I thought it was a joke’ and she said ‘Jae, that’s not a joke”. He also stated there that he would return to streaming once he had talked to Jamie about the situation. “I think until I see Jamie until I talk to her in person, and I figure this…[thing] out in my head, I don’t think I’ll be in a headspace where I can genuinely be a person”, he stated.
Around the 20th of January, Jamie went to Twitter to state that she and Jae had discussed the whole controversy in person. “Jae came by the other day we had a talk he apologized for his words and mistake,” she wrote. She also stated that she was pretty sure he didn’t mean any intentional harm in what he had said. “If anyone knows about Jae as a friend or close person you would know he wasn’t meaning that as what he said.”
She then stated that Jae had no intentions of repeating his actions after this controversy before ending her flurry of tweets on a more lighthearted note by saying, “So [Jae] imma smack you if u do that one more time.”
