On the day of January 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field while playing against the Cincinnati Bengals and suffered from cardiac arrest. According to mirror.co.uk it says, ¨Ambulance crews performed CPR on Hamlin and used a defibrillator to restart his heart before taking him to the hospital where the star was initially in a critical condition.¨Jamie Nadler, the physician in charge of Hamlin’s care at Buffalo General Medical Center had made a statement saying,¨We have completed a series of tests and evaluations…And in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.¨In a news conference Monday, the doctors who cared for Hamlin in Cincinnati said that recovery from a life-threatening episode like the one Hamlin suffered normally takes weeks or months.

While his improvement has been slightly ahead of the typical recovery trajectory, they stated that it is too early to speculate on how far Hamlin is from returning to regular life and that any discussion of whether he may play football again would be “considerably in the future.”  When Hamlin finally did wake up, he asked the nurses in writing, ¨Did the Bills win the game?¨ The doctors responded and told Hamlin that he had indeed won the game according to cbssports.com. After undergoing this catastrophe, Hamlin had to undergo another issue at hand.

After being released from the hospital, Damar Hamlin received some ¨love and support¨ from other teams. On January 9, 2023, Pittsburgh Steeler performed a celebratory point during the game, and in ¨honor¨ of Damar Hamlin, they incorporated CPR in the celebration no more than a week after Hamlin had suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. When Alex Highsmith made a successful tackle as his opponent attempted to throw, known as a sack, in their game against the Cleveland Browns. As Highsmith lay on the ground, his teammate rushed over and started performing compressions on his chest in remembrance of the movement that stopped the Browns´ play. According to Mirror.co.uk, Ltrevoc stated, ¨I’ve lost all respect for that team. If Mike Tomlin doesn’t address that despicable act, he’ll lose my respect too.¨ Steelers fans around the world were beyond disappointed in the celebratory actions that were taken on that field and will forever tarnish their team and reputation. During those 9 days of suffering, Hamlin was getting love and support from all around the world; because of the positive impact and charity work that Damar Hamlin had poured into the community, he also got in return exceptional amounts of donations towards the charity that he started to support a hometown toy drive in the McKees Rocks community and ended up raising over 6 million dollars.

From continually pouring opportunities and wisdom into his community to fighting for his life to continue the legacy that he sought to build, Damar Hamlin will continue to be an inspiration to all young boys and girls and also to adults that even when life gets tough and you feel like giving up, just look around and see what is worth fighting for; once you find those things, start building.
