In a world shaped by fast-changing trends, social media, and constant societal pressure, many people believe faith is disappearing among young people. However, at Santiago High School, a different reality is taking place. Many students are choosing to follow Jesus Christ and are finding real strength, identity, and purpose in their faith.
This article highlights what inspires these students to remain committed to their relationship with the Lord and Savior. Through interviews, they share how their faith began, the challenges they’ve faced along the way, and how they continue to grow despite obstacles. Their stories show that for this generation, faith is not simply a tradition; it is meaningful, personal, and life-changing.
When did you first begin your relationship with Jesus Christ?
“I would say when I was like 6 or 7, because that’s when I started actually to understand what the Bible meant and went to Sunday school and learned about it.”
Nevaeh Walston (11)
“I always grew up in a Christian household, but I didn’t start really getting close to Jesus until I started going to Crossroads Christian school in about 6th or 7th grade.”
Trent Hoegner (11)
“I had my relationship with Jesus Christ for as long as I can remember. I remember accepting him into my heart when I was in Sunday school, when I was 4 years old. I definitely think that being able to have those roots in Jesus as I’ve gotten into high school, and I hope it continues to get stronger past high school.”

What helps you stay strong in your faith during stressful times?
“There’s a verse I can’t quite remember exactly what it is, but it says something that God will never give you things that you can’t handle; that you can just ask Him for help with whatever it is.”
Nevaeh Walston (11)
“Constant prayer, trying to listen to what he’s trying to tell me, reading the word, and just trying to make the most of every situation I’m in.”
Trent Hoegner (11)
“I’ve experienced God’s grace in my life so many times. There have been so many situations where I know I shouldn’t have received something I did. There are so many things in my life that are blessings and encourage me to stay trusting in God and stay close to Him, because I know that it won’t stop from what I’ve already gotten, and I know that we’re going to continue to grow in Christ, will be able to help me achieve more and get through harder times in the future.”
Karisma Ramos (11)
What is one lesson God has taught you through a difficult time?
“Make sure you’re praying because, no matter what you’re going through, you can always ask and pray to just ask God for guidance and wisdom, and just again, he’ll never give you anything you can’t handle. So that’s really always stuck with me because I feel like sometimes I don’t know what I was supposed to do.”
Nevaeh Walston (11)
“Even though I thought I had something good going for my life, I thought his plan was going to be better. And I just need to trust that something good is coming for me.”
Trent Hoegner (11)
“When I was a sophomore, I became really obsessed with my sports performance and wanted to perform better to the point where I actually began to stunt myself and didn’t grow in my sport anymore, and got really frustrated. I was really disappointed with my performance in my main event and in track. One day, I just had one more race of the day, and as the race, I wasn’t really prioritizing caring about. And when I prayed to God, I was all right and eased my worries about what just happened, and it let me finish off strong. Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through God, who gives me strength.”

What would you say to someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus?
“He knows you and your heart, and will always be there, no matter when you start. You don’t have to be afraid to start because, no matter what your sin, no sin is too big for God. He will always just be there, no matter what.”
Nevaeh Walston (11)
“There’s no point not trying. I would go to church, if it’s not for you, it’s not for you. But if you feel something when you go, then I would give it a deeper shot.”
Trent Hoegner (11)
“Don’t believe in coincidences because everything happens for a reason, and it’s through God and through his grace that he allows us to experience things that wouldn’t normally occur. Miracles do happen. I think that people who don’t believe in God kind of don’t view miracles as something given from God. I definitely think to just be on the lookout for miracles and not view them as something that’s just faith because it’s truly God’s faith, and that’s probably one of the biggest ways that people turn to God is through miracles. I feel like they just need to experience his love, and they just need to be on the lookout for it.”

The voices of students at Santiago High School make one thing clear: faith is still alive in this generation. Even with doubts, struggles, and outside pressures, many are choosing to stay grounded in their beliefs in Jesus Christ. Their journeys reflect perseverance, courage, and a deep hope that carries them through difficult times.
Above all, they want others to understand that the path is not about being perfect; it is about building a relationship, learning, and experiencing grace. Whether someone already believes or is still searching, their message is simple: keep your heart open. In a world that often feels uncertain, their faith continues to shape their lives in powerful ways.
