As the sun set over the baseball field, students gathered on the grass with popcorn and blankets for an unexpected Movie Night by Link Crew. This event involved watching Monsters Inc., which is such a nostalgic movie choice from Link Crew. It occurred on the grass portion of the baseball field. As you enter the event, you get greeted by joyous Link Crew members guiding you through to the convention stand, where you get to pick your choice of drinks and snacks for a low price. This event was a movie night, open to all grades, from 7 to 8:30 PM. Link crew sold drinks, such as lemonade and sodas, candy, such as M&M’s and Skittles, and popcorn. Luckily for the Freshman, they got the popcorn for free just for being the class of ‘29.
This is one of the many events organized this school year. They have held events on campus to encourage freshmen to be more involved and interact with their peers.
This event wasn’t as well-populated as their other events this school year. Hopefully, they continue this movie night next year, and plenty of students will be eager to attend.
Link Crew President Samantha Murello shared details about the event’s planning.
What movies were you considering? And why did you land on Monsters Inc?
“Alongside Monsters Inc., the class was considering Gnomeo & Juliet and Beauty and the Beast. We ended up choosing Monsters Inc. because it won the popular vote.”

Why did you guys decide to plan this movie night?
“We decided to plan a movie night to give us an event for the second semester. We have Fright Night in the first semester, and it’s huge for us, so we felt like we needed something for us to put on in the second semester.”
What was the most rewarding aspect of the planning process?
“The most rewarding aspect of the planning process was being able to bond with everyone in Link Crew. This will be our last event for us seniors, so it’s bittersweet, and we wanted to make the best out of it.”
Were there any other activities you were considering other than the movie night?
“No. We knew right away we wanted to do a movie night.”
How are you making this movie night different from the drive-in?
“We wanted to make everyone feel included, and like a family, so we had the event on the JV Baseball Field, so we can be closer together and interact with everyone that came. We also made the event free to enter.”
Unfortunately, the movie was cut short due to issues with the sun’s timing, as it did not set until later. They were attempting to start the movie as the sun was setting, since they needed the darkness of night to display it. The movie ultimately started around 7:20, and the event was set to begin at 7:00. This resulted in the movie being shut down around 8:35. On a brighter note, this was a fun event for students at Santiago, and those who got to attend seemed to be very interested and engaged in the movie as they crowded around with friends and popcorn.
