In the recent presidential election, the evidence resulted in what many would describe as a landslide: President Trump won by substantial numbers that had not been seen in quite some time. The House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Presidency will be Republican-dominated as of 2025 and will be in office starting January 3rd (Senators) and January 20th (President). This has taken on the name of the “Trump Trifecta,” but what does that mean for the country? More importantly, what has it already done?
It is becoming increasingly clear that clinching this trifecta puts the Republican party in a strong position regarding changes and initiating controversial policies. With two Senate seats flipped in Pennsylvania, one in Colorado, and one in Michigan, Republicans could maintain and slightly expand their influence in primarily Democratic states. Essentially, it was the flip of the “Blue Wall” that led to Trump’s historic landslide victory. The ‘Blue Wall’ consists of eighteen states that had been mainly Democratic from 1992 to 2012. They are as follows: New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, Washington, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, Connecticut, and Hawaii. Maine, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Vermont. This expanded power can mean one thing: President Donald J Trump will be nearly unstoppable. While many see this as a positive outcome, others view it as a potential issue, although where one may stand is subjective. Todd Belt, a professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management, even stated, “The level of opportunity that Donald Trump has right now is very high.” With that being said, some claim that it is a “weak trifecta,” with the majority likely to be relatively slim. Republicans have control of the House and the Senate. Still, only fifty-three of the one hundred seats in the Senate are Republican dominant, and while the 218 Seats in the House were maintained as also Republican dominant, many believe that the majority will be “slim” in that area as well, despite over half of seat- holders in both institutions of Congress leaning towards more right-rooted policies.
While we still have 48 days until the Senate takes power and 65 days until the new Presidency, the election has already resulted in tremendous effects that could alter the future of the United States and the World. As a matter of fact, within just three days of the historic Presidential election, here’s a list of what has already taken place (List found on Charlie Kirk’s Instagram page):
–The European Union intended to buy American natural gas to avoid Trump’s high tariffs.
– Vladimir Putin says he will sell Russian oil in US dollars.
–Hamas is calling for peace in their war with Israel, which has lasted over a year.
–Volodymyr Zelensky held a private phone call with President Trump and Elon Musk.
– A Mexican caravan is broken up and heading for America.
The outcome of this election was highly anticipated and extremely controversial, even tearing relationships apart. So, while many are afraid, anxious, and unsettled about what the future may hold, many have a newfound sense of hope in the political system and the country’s future in its entirety.
