September 4th, Santiago kicked off their first home game of the season against Santa Margarita. Many people came out to support. We started the game with a performance by band as our team came running onto the field, then we sang the National Anthem, followed by our Alma Matter.
The game was off to a good start, for the other team. By the end of the first quarter the score was 14-0, the Sharks being 0. Things were starting to look better for the Sharks as half time started rolling around. Santiago was able to score two touchdowns. Quarterback Alex Sandoval (12) put Santiago onto the board with his rushing touchdown. Sandoval passed the ball to Jacob Richard (12) who then ran it into the end zone for the second touchdown of the game making the score 35-14.
The half time show consisted of band playing Hawaii Five-0 and Bite On. Band was followed by a performance by dance, hip-hop, and cheer. These performances helped to keep spirits high in the stands. Santiago was very tenacious and refused to go down without a fight.
The Sharks still faced the loss on Friday with the final score being 56-14. Despite their best efforts, the Sharks did lose their second game of the season, making them zero for two. Luckily for them the season is still early, and there is still a lot of time improvement.
