Top 10 things to do during spring break 2017

Taylor Sanfillippo, Staff Writer

One week off school means parties, friends, and lots of fun and memories. Here are the top 10 things to do this spring break.

Go to the beach, walk on the pier, and take some cool pictures. San Clemente beach has a train that takes you across the coast. Huntington Beach offers Ruby’s at the end of their pier. Underneath the pier are some amazing photo opportunities. Do not forget to take advantage of that!

  • Go to the mall with some friends, walk around, and have some fun. Irvine spectrum is full of brand name stores. Some places to go are Dave and Busters, Edwards Cinema 21 IMAX and RPX, and the “famous” Ferris wheel in the center of the mall.
  • Throw a backyard movie night. Make some popcorn, buys some candy and rent a movie. A cool way to make a DIY movie screen is to take a white bed sheet and hang it from a clothing line. Put some mattresses or sleeping bags and pillows on the floor, and BAM! Comfort and entertainment all in your own backyard!
  • Take a road trip. Some popular tourist attractions include Hollywood Walk of Fame, Malibu Beach, San Francisco, and San Diego. Figure out your interests and be ambitious. Take a leap of faith and have some fun!
  • Look for celebrities. This could end two ways. Either you could find the celebrity you wanted to find, or you could not find anyone. Either way, if you are hanging out with friends while doing this, you can make the best out of either situation.
  • Go to a popular ice-cream shop. Here are a few in the local area.
  • Space roll – ice cream and Boba / Chino Hills
  • Frozen D’ light / Green River
  • Menchie’s frozen yogurt / Hidden Valley Plaza
  • Fruitilandia / West sixth street, corona
  • Toi Moi / Riverside
  • Go to a fair or a festival. Here are a few in the local area:
    • Festival of Colors / a spring festival with live music, dance and lots of color such as colored powder used in color runs ( March )
    • Lantern festival / a Chinese American festival with millions of lit lanterns being let go into the night sky.
    • Annual peach blossom festival / a festival teaching the importance of interpreting and performance
  • If you want to have a relaxed day, read your favorite book, listen to your favorite music and order your favorite food!
  • Try something new. Go to the beach and learn how to surf or stay at home and learn how to cook your favorite dish. Take on something that you are interested in doing.

And finally, last but not least,

  • Explore! Get off the phone or computer, escape social media for a day. Go somewhere you have never been before, somewhere you’ve been talking about for a while. Grab a couple friends and enjoy the experience.

This life is short. Make the best out of it. Have some fun while you are still young. Take a breath and take in the beauty of this wonderful world around you.
