(Spoilers for The Flash Season 4 Episode 1 will follow.)

On Tuesday, October 10, the CW’s show The Flash returned for a fourth season. The show previously left off on a dramatic finale, with Barry making a huge sacrifice. After realizing Iris is still alive due to H.R’s own sacrifice, Barry decided to enter the speed force to save Central City, leaving the audience wanting answers to their many questions.

The season premiere started off with Cisco, Iris, Wally, and Joe, still working together; the original team were all there except Barry and Caitlin. The audience could quickly pick up on the distress of all the members as they were still dealing with their loss. The episode portrayed Iris’ heartbreak so realistically, the viewers could feel her pain through the screen. This made Iris’ outbursts at Cisco, for wanting Barry back, more bearable.

However, the team bands together and even recruits Caitlin, determined to save Barry. Though Barry’s return was a relief, especially after the audience’s months of waiting, the process seemed a bit too quick and easy. Barry’s immediate revival sparked some confusion, yet he himself caused even more perplexity.

The team finds him at the police station, where he covered the walls in unknown symbols and began mumbling incoherent rhymes. Then, after Iris practically forces Barry to save her, he instantly returns to “normal.” He even begins to act even happier than he was before he entered the speed force. This, to the audience, seemed like another quick fix and led them to believe that he was perhaps hiding something else.

The audience went into season 4, looking for answers, yet came out with even more questions: Is Barry actually back normal? What were the symbols and rhymes he was obsessing over? Will season 4 give us the solutions to these problems? We hope so.
