Spring break!

Spring break!

Spring break is just around the corner! It is a time of relief; however, the emphasis on “break” stands out the most. The days of sunshine and warmth radiate and instantly lift any worries. A period in our lives that counts down to our final days left in the school year: the eagerness to live our teenage lives. Now, if you are unsure how to spend your spring break, here are the top 10 ways to enjoy it.

Go to the Beach!

La Jolla Shores

A beach escape is recommended; leave your troubles for a bit and lay in the warm sand while listening to the ocean waves crash. The beach enables you to recharge not only mentally but emotionally and physically. Yes, our everyday lives bring immense stress; however, a simple trip to the beach, believe it or not, can improve our lives. Letting your mind wander or forgetting about deadlines or projects can be more beneficial, even if it’s just for a split second.

Self Care Day

Mrs. Doubtfire

You may have been very overwhelmed and need some time to yourself. Nothing is more perfect than a self-care day! Grab some of your favorite skincare items, relax, and bathe. A self-care day doesn’t always have to be about skincare and maintenance; it can be simply laying in bed all day watching your favorite movies or doing things that make you happy. Whatever brings you joy will help you reset and care for yourself.

New TV series?

Did you hear about that new show that’s coming out on Netflix? Well, what better time to start watching it than during spring break? If you don’t feel like leaving your house or don’t want to be outside your whole break, start a new show series. Grab some blankets and your favorite snacks, and get comfy. There’s nothing more entertaining than watching an entire series from beginning to end, even if the ending leaves you crying for days after.

Family Time

Family together

During this break, most families can be around each other more frequently. Maybe because of work, school, or any other prior obligations, but during this time, everyone has the same schedule for once, which can really help you reset. It can alleviate the stresses and worries that come with whatever daily tasks you might take part in. There is nothing more beneficial than spending quality time with your family members.

Retail Therapy?

Devil wears Prada been You may have been eyeing a new pair of shoes or have been waiting to purchase a particular item. Everyone could benefit from a little bit of retail therapy, now my words aren’t here to persuade you into anything; however it is an option. Mainly because it is officially prom season, what better time to dress shopping than during spring break.

Go to a farmer’s market

Due to the warm weather, there are plenty of local farmers’ markets that take place more frequently than usual. These vary; some might be strictly farmers markets where you can get produce and try new things, or you can buy your produce and a couple of things to furnish your house. Either way, anything that isn’t a part of your regular schedule can benefit you during your time off.

Theme parks

Visit a theme park, whether that is Disneyland, Six flags or Knott’s Berry Farm, it is always fun to go on rides and enjoy good food. Grab some friends and pay a visit to a theme park near you, if you like being on the tallest rides and live off of the adrenaline rush, then six flags is the way to go. Disneyland is an option if you want more of a family-friendly park but still want to have some fun. Now Knott’s berry farm will guarantee a time well spent, and you can even bring a bucket of delicious fried chicken home.

Go Thrifting

This might be a little bit of an iffy option; therefore, maybe not everyone would be willing to go to the thrift store. On the other hand, some enjoy building their closets from vintage clothing or re-purposing old clothes. A great activity to do with friends or even by yourself, a few extra additions to your closet won’t hurt.

Spring Cleaning

Everyone could benefit from a bit of cleaning of closets and drawers, but especially the closet, everyone stuffs everything in and forgets about it. Another great way to relieve stress, by tidying up and cleaning up areas you probably haven’t had time to clean, you will thank yourself in the long run. Your much-deserved time off can allow you to tackle the job you have either been dreading or looking forward to.

Explore

Sometimes, I believe that many of our decisions are influenced, and we believe everything in our life has to be uniform. Maybe you don’t want just specifically to do one thing during your whole break, and that is okay. Exploring by yourself, with friends, or with family, the idea of just considering places you might’ve never been able to see on your break.

However you may choose to spend a very well deserved time off, I hope these few ideas can help with any dilemmas that may appear during your break. With that being said, the days will only finish faster as the school year ends, so enjoy your rest because before you know it, we will begin the next year, and the repetitive cycle will live on.

Venezia Perez (11) is a current Junior at Santiago High School, playing basketball for the girl’s varsity team. She enjoys late-night car rides and listening to music. After high school, she plans to graduate from college with a degree in communications. She is currently in AP Language Arts, hoping to take her love for writing to the next level. She began to gain more and more interest in writing when she figured out she could express herself and her thoughts through writing. From then on, writing had become her favorite thing to do in school. Venezia has been playing basketball since she was six years old. Basketball was not her first sport, nor a sport many around her played. Her father played minor league baseball for the Angels, and her sisters played softball for some time. Eventually, Venezia grew out of softball and wanted something new. Her cousin played college basketball and played overseas in Spain for a while; from that moment on, Venezia wanted to be just like her. She aspires to complete her education in communications and play basketball overseas. Eventually, basketball will come to an end. Therefore, she would love to pursue a career in sports journalism/ broadcasting and maybe even one day become a coach. In the future, Venezia hopes to leave a positive impact on those that she comes in contact with. She hopes that her kind spirit and sarcastic humor leave a lasting impression. She also hopes to express her strong and determined mindset through writing. Her goal is to leave readers, as well as her peers, more than just content with her writing.
