LIVE FROM CORONA, CALIFORNIA, IS SANTIAGO NIGHT LIVE!!

Santiago High School’s Advanced Theatre class has been working non-stop since the beginning of Summer to put on an original variety show, similar to Saturday Night Live. Full of comedy sketches and musical numbers, SNL is jam packed with talent and humor.

Over Summer Break, the 18 Advanced Theatre students fervently worked to write 3 original and comedic scenes to present to the class and Ms. Beyer, Santiago’s theater teacher. Kaycee Kearns-Burns (10) vocalized, “The preparation for SNL was long and tedious, but still very fun. It was really entertaining getting to see what each person came up with and the scenes that potentially could be in the show”.

After a few weeks of performing scenes and making adjustments, 25 scenes made the cut and were placed into the show! The Advanced Theatre students collectively agreed that the scenes “Thanksgiving Dinner”, “Substitute Teacher”, and “Rap Thursdays Part 2” are sure to be fan favorites! Rocco Novello (12), writer of Rap Thursdays Part 2, commented, “Writing raps was a whole lot of fun, and Jimmy Dean is a character that I can just have fun with. I love the energy and laughter that it brings to the stage, and there are a bunch of little Easter Eggs hidden throughout the script. All in all, it is an amazing scene to be a part of.”

Along with impeccable comedy sketches, SNL contains two phenomenal musical numbers: “I Hope I Get It” from the hit Broadway musical A Chorus Line and a Disney Medley full of iconic Disney classics. “My favorite part about being in SNL is the singing and dancing. This year, our Advanced class is FILLED with so much talent, so it is incredible that we are able to showcase their talent in this show,” exclaimed Melanie Villalobos (12).

What most people aren’t aware of is that the theatre students put on the entire show all by themselves. From making costumes and props, to figuring out stage direction and sound cues, the show has required countless hours of preparation.

Regardless if you are a fan of theatre or not, SNL is a must see. Adam Leiva (12) mentioned that “People should see the show because it’s both funny and engaging and we are all excited to see all of our hard work pay off!”
