For 19 years,  Mike Scioscia has managed the Los Angeles Angels baseball team. At the end of the 2018 regular season, Scioscia stated in a press conference that after managing the Angels organization for 19 years, he would be stepping down as the Angels manager. Mike Trout, the star center fielder for the Angels told Orange County Register that Scioscia “was the only manager I played for. It’s tough to see him go.” Scioscia ends his run as a manager in an Angels’ uniform earning 1,650 victories, 7 playoff appearances, and a World Series Championship back in 2002.

On October 21st, the Angels named Brad Ausmus, a former Detroit Tigers manager, as their replacement for Mike Scioscia. He will become the 17th manager of the Angels organization. Ausmus managed the Tigers from 2014 to 2017. Last year, Ausmus spent the season as the special assistant to the Angels’ general manager Billy Eppler. During Ausmus’s first year managing the Tigers, he led them to a 90-72 win-loss record, which led them to win the American League Central Division title. During his time as the Tigers’ manager, Ausmus had a record of 314-332, including 1 playoff appearance in his 4 years with the team.

The Angels’ general manager Billy Eppler said in a statement to ESPN, “we believe in his knowledge, drive, and growth. His mindset will be pivotal in advancing our culture and moving us toward our goals as an organization.”  It was announced after Brad Ausmus’s press conference that the Angels had signed him to a 3-year deal. Ausmus is a determined coach that tells his players to “win today and if we do that, things will be fine.” With the Angel’s drought of a championship title for the last 16 years, Brad Ausmus is looking to turn things around and win the city of Anaheim another World Series championship.
