In Lewiston, Maine, a man who is said to be Robert Card unleashed gunfire upon two different locations: a bar and a bowling alley. The suspect is not in custody at the moment and has a warrant out for his arrest for these shootings. A search has been put out on the suspect, with multiple government agencies doing their best to find the man. This shooting is the deadliest shooting America has seen since the Uvalde Elementary School shooting in May of 2022. Lewiston, Maine, shootings: A 'close-knit' community, Mills says

The suspect’s sister has already spoken out and has said that her brother Robert doesn’t have a long history of mental health issues and that this episode is very out of character for him. Card has been a supply specialist in the Army Reserve since 2002 but has never been deployed for combat. His motives for the shootings are unknown as of now, but Law Enforcement has revealed something. Robert had confessed to hearing voices along with threats of shooting up a National Guard base in Saco, Maine; it is very concerning that these confessions were not taken much more seriously at the time as he was only put in a mental health facility for two weeks.

On top of this, Card is a trained Marksman and is one of the best shooters in his unit at the reserve. An AR-15 was used to carry out this massacre, which is already under a lot of controversy because of the other mass shootings the firearm has been used in. In 2018, Parkland, Florida, was a victim of the phantom of this gun when the shooter, Nikolas Cruz, opened fire, killing 17 people before fleeing. The reputation of this gun is not good, and this recent shooting will reignite a lot of debates over the purchase and use of this gun.

This is not the first time a search has reached the New England states as back in 2013, tragedy struck at the Boston Marathon when two people set off pressure cooker bombs in the crowd, killing three and injuring hundreds. A search lasted four and a half days till they caught one of the men, and the other one was killed during the pursuit. The people in Maine fear what may happen next with this man on the loose in their towns. It’s tough for law enforcement to find the man as ninety percent of Maine’s land is filled with forests and farmland, so there’s no telling where this man could be and whether or not he is dead or alive.

As the search continues for the suspect, his family has made statements saying that they are doing their best to help authorities find Robert Card, urging him to surrender to the authorities. Senator Susan Collins of Maine is in communication with President Biden to see how to respond to the horrific rampage as the state has “never experienced anything like this,” according to Collins. Kamala Harris has also made a statement expressing her concern and sympathy for the attack and talked about “yet another community torn apart by senseless gun violence.” As of 10:36 am Pacific Time, October 26th,2023, the suspect is still on the loose; 15 were confirmed dead on the scene, and three others died at area hospitals.
