Steven Kropko has stepped up to hold SAT math-focused prep courses in room H102 to help kids enhance their skills and gain a better score on the SAT. The prep courses are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday every week starting from 2:50 to 4:05. Students who signed up for the courses are divided into two groups, A and B. Group A attends classes on Tuesday and Thursday, while group B attends its classes on Wednesday and Friday.

“Santiago doesn’t have a support class for the SAT so I decided to take the opportunity to try and help students improve their skills for the test,” said Kropko. “I am a math teacher, however I do plan on helping the students with various other things including vocabulary.”

Kropko has the kids sign in everyday and takes roll to make sure all students are present. He began the course by giving out a practice test before winter break to evaluate where each student was. After the break, he introduced the students to the first lesson of the semester first lesson on integers.

Kropko goes at a slow and easy pace so the students don’t feel rushed or confused on the material. The students are assigned a packet filled with numerous examples that they go over during class time. For homework they are assigned a specific page in their SAT workbook to practice what they learned in class. Kropko puts plenty of effort into the course by going around the class and making sure the students are on task and completely understand the lesson.

“I think the class is definitely going to help me,” said Brenda Han (11).
