Future Sharks Get Connected

Future Sharks Get Connected

The 2014-15 school year has an expectancy of over nine hundred students for the freshmen class alone. As a courtesy to those students, ASB put together an assembly for the future sharks coming in from the middle schools of Corona: CFIS, Citrus Hills, El Cerrito, and Home Gardens Academy. Thursday, Feb. 13, hundreds of enthusiastic eighth graders filled the bleachers ecstatic to see what Santiago has to offer for each of their preferences of education.

Chris Perez (11) and Lauren Warner (12) came up with the theme for this assembly, Get Connected, in relations to the recent premiere of “The Lego Movie.” ASB members created many Lego themed posters and decorations just for this occasion.

One of the goals for the assembly was to show just how much school spirit Santiago Sharks have. So to work up the eighth graders Kenny Torres, one of the many Assistant Principals, did the famous class yell. Later Athletic Director Steve Mitchell showed off some of the many amazing athletes Santiago has. Performances were made by; JROTC, Drumline, Cheer, Choir, Dance, the Black Sea Men, and Hip-Hop, so you could undeniably say that the assembly felt more like a rally.

“The point of this assembly was to showcase everything Santiago has to offer,” said Petria Gonazales, Assistant Principal and ASB Director, “Academics, athletics, arts, and activities.”

Kristen Matsumato, one of Santiago’s other Assistant Principles, over saw the planning of this assembly. She coordinated with schools providing buses and ensuring  there were plenty of chaperons for each school. Coinciding with the assemblies held for the high school students, Matsumoto gave a power point presentation promoting the courses the incoming freshmen could take. Matsumoto also went over all the applications and forms with the students to give them a better understanding of how to fill them out.

After many performances, a few games, and a great deal of yelling, the showcasing of Santiago school spirit was successful.
