Monday, March 3 is the final deadline for Santiago Seniors to apply for the Broad Prize Scholarship. Students may have noticed the many encouraging posters around campus headlining the slogan “$20,000 could be yours,” but time to apply is running out.
CNUSD was honored last year as a runner-up in the Broad Prize for Urban Education, and along with three other schools, received $150,000 in scholarships for the district’s seniors. Seniors who are planning on attending a two-year college or technical school can receive up to $5,000 in scholarships, and seniors planning on attending a four-year college can receive $20,000 in scholarships.
To be eligible seniors must currently posses a 2.75 GPA or higher and fill out an online application that must be submitted to the Broad Foundation for final review.
“We want all our seniors to apply regardless of their GPA,” stated Marianna Machado the College and Career Tech, “the Broad Foundation is looking for Seniors who have improved their GPA from freshman year.”
The online application process includes three short essay questions, an academic information sheet, and an applicant appraisal form that must be filled out by a teacher. A link to the application may be found on the school website.
If any seniors are interested in applying for the Broad Prize Scholarship before the Monday deadline they can visit the College and Career Center in the library for assistance.
