The Santiago Sharks football program had a very hard fought season with a lot of hard work and dedication put into a new generation. The Santiago football team was lead by head coach Scott Morrison into an extremely tough Big 8 conference. The Shark’s start to the season was not what everyone was expecting to be, but the team quickly bounced back with their only four wins of the season. The Shark’s division record was still shaky with a 2-3 conference record.
The team’s main struggle came in the passing game but the Shark’s leading receiver #1 Jacob Ricard (12) had very outstanding year with 795 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns. The Sharks nearly had another playoff appearance but just fell short with a 3-point loss to the Roosevelt Mustangs. Even with all these struggles Santiago still had some upsides, including a strong running game headed by #22 Mason Hale (12) who had 6 rushing TD.
Some key games were the two games against Silverado and Chaparral where the Sharks scored 50 and won by at least 30 in both. Another strong win was when the Sharks stunned King High School in a 21-19 win. These three victories were the driving push to Santiago’s playoff hopes. Even though people are beginning to doubt Santiago’s football program; the future is bright with a great Freshmen team which will be coach Morrison’s first full class.
