The Inauguration of Donald Trump

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America on January 20, 2017.

Before the president was sworn in, a few musicians performed. Many people are aware the hunt for entertainers for this event was a hard job, as artists such as Elton John and Kanye West turned down the offer. However, the New York dance group, the Rockettes, agreed but it was reported that they were split because some refused to perform. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sung, as they have for the last five inaugurations. Ex-America’s Got Talent star, 16-year-old Jackie Evancho sung the national anthem as well.

Trump’s speech repeatedly expressed the idea that power will go to the citizens of America. He stated that this transfer of power is different because it is going from Washington, D.C. to the American people. He promised that he will return wealth and jobs and plans to rebuild our country with the “America First” mindset. Trump also told the American population, “You will never be ignored again.”

Secretary Hillary Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, were both in attendance at the inauguration to show their support for uniting the country after the explosive election that divided the population. Trump stated that he was “honored, very, very honored” that they came. He commented, “Honestly, there is nothing more I can say because I have a lot of respect for those two people.” Others in attendance were former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter.

The history book of America has turned a page as Donald Trump assumes the role of president and promises to “Make America Great Again.”
