Santiago’s track team just finished up their season at the Big VIII Track Finals. This meet was held at Norco High School on May 4, 2017. Some of the school records were even shattered at this meet, and many of our athletes advanced to CIF prelims.

Our boys’ team did great–Donavan Witherspoon (11) came in second in the varsity 100m at the amazing time of 11.07, and will be heading to CIF prelims for his performance. Kyle Pendleton (11) got second in the varsity 800m, narrowly missing the 1st place Roosevelt runner by just over .1 of a second, but he broke the school record! The 4×100 varsity relay (Delton Woods [12], Donavan Witherspoon [11], Jayson Martin [12], Brandon Thompson [11]–43.98) will be going to CIF, as well as the boys’ varsity 4×400 relay (Delton Woods [12], Antonio Maggi-Brown [12], Jayson Martin [12], and Kyle Pendelton [11]–3:28.30).

On the ladies’ side, Riley Corcoran (9) shattered her own school record in the varsity 400m and came in third, achieving the amazing time of 57.63, as just a freshman. She will be heading to CIF prelims for her amazing performance. Kayla Johnson (9) and Madison Storey (10) came in first and second in the junior varsity 800m race, with 2:35.49 and 2:36.38, respectively. This race earned Johnson the title of JV League Champion in the 800 meters. Also, the girls’ varsity 4×400 (Riley Corcoran [9], Cayla Etheridge [10], Alexis Alexander [9], and Samantha Velasquez [10]) broke the school record in their relay (3:57.32), and will be joining the boys’ varsity 4×400 at CIF prelims.

Moving to the field events, Silas Hurst (11) won the varsity 1.6kg discus throw at 155-10 and will be advancing to CIF for that, as well as his shot put performance. Connor Dickinson (9) took second in the JV 1.6kg discus at 92-04, and Travis Henderson (10) was right on his tail, taking third with 91-06. In the triple jump, Mitchell Agude (12) got third place in the varsity competition with 44-06 and is ready to go to CIF prelims for the triple jump and long jump. Zachary Rees (11) earned first place in the JV triple jump contest with 40-01. In the high jump, Ashlyn Blotzer (11) made it to CIF for her amazing performance as well. Besides the listed people, we got many new PRs our athletes should be very proud of.

The Shark Attack congratulates the track team on another impressive season, and thanks to the coaches for leading our track team to success. We can’t wait to see what our Sharks will do next season!
