Football Is Back in Action

Football Is Back in Action

With baseball having one full month left until the postseason, football is starting for all 32 teams. Here is what you need to know before the regular season starts.

THE CHAMPIONS ARE BACK: How can we all forget about the amazing comeback, finished in overtime, by the New England Patriots? They celebrated all year long, met the president, and are fired up for this season. This is a team full of players that have put up career numbers or performed at the best of their ability to win. They still have their superstar quarterback who is full of talent and being called the G.O.A.T (Greatest of all time), Tom Brady. We can all agree he is getting older and that will play a factor in this season. Personally, I do not think it will because he would retire if his body was not capable of producing at the level he is used to. Whether or not you love Tom Brady or hate the team, they are still one of the best in the business.

THE FALCONS WILL FLY AWAY: Just like last year, the Falcons are planning on going back to where they were almost a full year ago. They were a quiet team this off season which could only mean two things: they accepted the lost and will fall apart, or they believe in guys like Mat Ryan, Joule Jones, and all the other guys that made the Super Bowl so special for the fans.

THE STEEL CITY IS READY FOR GLORY: The Pittsburgh Steelers’ chance has never been bigger, with an explosive offense and solid defense all lead by Ben Roethlisberger. This man has been through many losses in his career in the postseason, including a couple against the Patriots, but this year his chances and the entire team’s chances are better than I have seen in my entire life. It takes career numbers, or performing to the best of their abilities, to win a championship in any sport on the planet, so we will all see if they are able to perform this year.

THE LOUDEST STADIUM IN FOOTBALL JUST GOT LOUDER: I actually love this team now with all the new additions, such as a new general manager and the rookie star, Patrick Mahomes. He has put up amazing numbers in college, showing off his running game, which made him the 11th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs this year. He is ready for a great year and so is the team with a great defense and offense lead by Alex Smith, the reigning quarterback in Kansas. Their division certainly has not gotten easier recently but they are one of the teams that have a slim chance for the title.

ANOTHER TEAM IN LA!: The Chargers are moving up to the city of angels leaving San Diego now with only one pro sports team, The Padres. Will the change of scenery help for the better? It might, but remember that most franchises have done poorly in their inaugural season in a new city. There have also been a lot of questions circulating recently, such as: Will there be a rivalry between the Chargers and Rams? Is the city big enough for two? Will the fans love the new team? All these questions will be answered in the home opener in week 2 of the regular season.

WILL DEREK CARR BE BETTER OFF FROM HIS INJURY: Derek Carr of the Raiders is coming back from a not so great season last year with a season ending injury, which took place on Christmas Eve against the Indianapolis Colts. His throws were long and good until he got thrown down onto the ground shouting “It broke!” Carr broke his right fibula and was carried out of the game and would not return in a 14-27 lost to the Huston Texans in the playoffs. Now that he is back, will he be the man that carries the team to the top? We will all find out soon.

CLEVELAND HAS OPTIONS FOR QUARTERBACK: Yes, they were the worst team last year, but that is now history. They now have 3 talented athletes to lead this team in the Quarterback position: Myles Garret (1st overall pick in this year’s draft), Brock Osweiler (returning quarterback), and Cody Kessler (drafted in the second round of this year’s draft). Even if the decision is made for one quarterback nothing is written in stone.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR ARON ROGERS AND THE CHEESE HEADS: I think we can all agree that Aaron Rogers can do everything you can think of with a football in his hands. He has always been set to win, but he is only on the field for half of the game at most, so the team needs a solid defense and a great team in front of Rogers and that is what they have. There is a slim chance of them going far in the playoffs, but do not take this team to lightly.

WE ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THE GIANTS!: There are only three things you need to look at on this team: The ball, Eli Manning, and Odell Beckham. Both players know how to win big and have done it in their careers with the team, but can they do it again? Some might say yes, but know that it takes more than just two guys and a great offense to win in any situation. Just like the old song goes “but if you want to win, you have to learn how to play”(Head Games-Foreigner-1979).

If your favorite team or a player you like was not mentioned, just remember that everyone has a chance to make a statement at the start of the season which always brings celebration. Week one is where not only questions are answered, but families meet and have a good time while they watch others have a good time doing what they love, playing the game of football. Now show your team colors, let everyone know who you are rooting for and lets all win, Win, WIN!
