As technology advances, becoming more and more widely available, people are becoming exposed to the benefits of technology at significantly younger ages. Although this seems as though it may be beneficial for society that our children are becoming familiar with technology at a very young age, it’s extremely possible that there are harmful side-effects of this exposure.

Children’s exposure and dependence on technology is not their fault. Many parents have adapted to dealing with difficult or rowdy children through the use of technology. Rather than disciplining or communicating with an upset child, many parents buy their children devices to keep them busy and out of their hands. We have all seen the child that is solely dependent on using their parent’s phone for games and other distractions, but how often do we think why this is? It’s due to the immense reliance that children have acquired of technology, they find it easier to just live in a world of constant information, never-ending entertainment, and exuberant stimulation. They have become so reliant upon so many distractions in order to evade their emotions, and this is only getting worse as technology becomes introduced to people of younger ages.

There are many detrimental factors that technology is having on our youth, including, but not limited to, many mental and social disorders. Children have also shown a spike in aggression levels due to the increased amount of violence available for them to see and digest. Along with this, they experience extreme desensitization to said violence which leads to a skewed sense of reality later on in life; later such effects can contribute to a likeliness to commit crimes.

In a sense, we all know that technology is extremely beneficial to us in our day-to-day lives especially in improving our overall efficiency. However, like all things we need to take it in moderation and regulate how our children are using it because too much exposure to the glories of technology will, in the long run, prove to be harmful to not only upcoming but all generations.
