Black Lives Matter Movement

Black Lives Matter Movement is still alive and especially prevalent in today’s society. With Trump as President, racists have gotten extra bold and feel almost as if they are entitled to be racist because of Trump’s position. As soon as Trump was elected, KKK rallies broke out in cities where there have never been any racist disturbances before. Recently, around mid-August, there was a huge group of white Supremacists and Neo-Nazis protesting the removal of a Confederate statue. Anti-racists then came to protest their side, and a car was then driven into a crowd of these protestors, killing one woman, and injuring 19 people. Trump failed to acknowledge the people as white supremacists and stated, “both sides were at fault”. Even other Republicans admitted Trump was in the wrong, and an act of violence as such as terrorism and white supremacy at its finest.

Yet, people want to say racism is dead because we had Obama as President. Contrary to popular belief, racism is still very alive in America – now more than ever. The Black Lives Matter movement is focusing on “black lives” because those are the lives being oppressed and killed off. When white people heard of this movement, they were quick to say: “All Lives Matter!” Yes, we know all lives matter, but all lives aren’t in danger. White people aren’t being shot by the police for no valid reason. Later, when police officers were being shot at because of what they’ve done to the African American Community, people came up with,”Blue Lives Matter” referring to police officer’s blue uniforms. As said before, and in this reporter’s opinion, police officer’s lives aren’t being endangered like black lives are. When a police officer shoots at an innocent black man, he will go home for dinner that night, he will get off free of consequence. It’s important to be mindful – we are all human beings, created equal, no one person is better than another because of their skin color, gender, religion, sexuality, or any other non-important facts when it comes to people.
