September 12, 2023, 31-year-old Maleesa Mooney was found dead in a downtown LA apartment.

Maleesa Mooney, who considered herself “a model and luxury retailer,” was found dead before 4 p.m. on Tuesday (September 12, 2023) in her apartment in the “200 block of South Figueroa Street”(nbclosangeles.com.) It also became known that the reason officers went to her apartment, to begin with, was for a welfare check, and it was not clear who had requested this “welfare check.”

LAPD soon released a statement not long after some further inspection saying, “The investigation revealed  that Maleesa Mooney had been murdered inside of her apartment,” continuing with, “The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying any the persons responsible for Maleesa Money’s death.”

Deaths of two models in downtown L.A. appear unrelated, LAPD says - Los Angeles Times

The death of Maleesa Money remains a mystery as to the reasons for this murder and the who and the whereabouts of this anonymous and alleged killer. However, some citizens believe there may be a supposed connection between the death of Maleesa Money and the other recent death of 32-year-old Nichole Coats that commenced on September 10, 2023. These two deaths are believed to be connected because these women were models, both were located in LA, both were possible cases of murder and, of course, the apparent fact is that these catastrophic death cases occurred within just two days. But as more speculation arose, authorities have stated that they do not believe these deaths are connected, as the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Nichole Coats, the 32-year-old woman who passed away two days before Maleesa Money was killed, was also found dead in her apartment on South Grand Avenue in downtown LA. Not much of the murder of Nichole Coats has been revealed in her “death investigation.” LAPD and the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Department have also informed the public that Nicole Coats’s case is not currently being investigated as a homicide, directly stating, “There is no evidence to suggest that stood out to us that would make it a homicide, so we need the coroner to examine the body to see what caused the death.” But Coats’s mother, Sharon Coats, told The Times the Tuesday after her daughter’s death that she has a strong belief that her daughter was killed due to the state of her room when her body was found, saying, “The bed was covered up, and I went over there, and I pulled the sheets back, and I started screaming because there was blood everywhere,” and also, “I think it was foul play, and I’m not going to rest until I find the killer.” Nichole’s mother, Sharon, also stated that her daughter had tried to contact her a few days before September 10 (the day of her death), but she missed her calls; she was to believe she was preparing for a trip to Cancún, Mexico before she lost her life. But overall, her mother stated, “I’m just glad I was able to see her.” (she means she could see her because she was visiting Nichole in LA for four days). It is also known that Coat’s aunt, May Stevens, told KTLA that she also thinks Nichole was killed by stating, “I believe it was murder, I do. One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died.”

Maleesa Money was loved by many, but one person in particular included her older sister, the pop singer Jourdin Pauline. The Thursday after Mooney sadly passed, her sister (Jourdin Pauline) posted pictures on Instagram of Mooney with a caption saying:

“Never in a million years did I think I’d have to make this post and get justice for my one & only sister. My heart is crushed. I can’t believe you won’t be here with us anymore. You were so loving and kind to everyone that you made sure if you ate, everyone around you was too. You opened your arms to people who didn’t deserve you as a friend. You’re the best thing to happen to almost everyone’s lives you touched!!! ????????? this is so sick I can’t believe my baby big sister is gone!!!!! The reason I’m me is because of you!!! My first best friend, the one who taught me everything I know!!!!! How is it even possible you won’t be here? We were supposed to grow old together, have babies, and cook off wars (you’re the best chef ever). This feels surreal; I keep crying, thinking I’m in a bad dream and we will get justice for you, my sister. I promise you won’t be gone in vain!!! The people you touched and loved will carry on for you and keep your name alive in the most beautiful and loving light. You did not deserve this at all ???????? your birthday is next month. I can’t even breathe the same; the air feels so weird. I needed you, Maleesa I love you so so so so much ?? I’m still waiting for a call to tell me this isn’t real, Jesus, please!!!!!!!!!! #JUSTICEFORMALEESA I can’t stop crying, lord, please help me. I love you, Maleesa. I am so sorry ??????? this hurts so bad.”
