Causing Screams and terror across theaters since 2013, the Conjuring franchise has pulled in
over $2.6 billion worldwide across 9 films. Terrifying audiences and giving fans no choice but to
come back. “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” released September 5, 2025, is nothing short of the
same thrilling concepts we all loved. So is this movie worth it, and how are critics and fans
responding?
The story takes place in 1980 and is based on actual events. The Conjuring in Pennsylvania,
where a family claims demons have been haunting their home for fifteen years. We follow the
same paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine, to this chilling case, as they attempt to save
the endangered Smurl household. Now, here’s where the plot differs from other conjuring
movies: instead of relying solely on ghosts and paranormal jump scares, we dive into personal
issues and now the Warrens aren’t just investigating—they’re personally targeted by the supernatural
forces they’re fighting. It balances the horror and storyline effortlessly, which many films fail to
perfect. And it seems to have worked – despite being rated R and a terrifying franchise, which
people either can not stand or can not get enough of, it experienced a massive opening
weekend, with a franchise-record $83 million debut and a $194 million global launch – according
to IMDb. It earned itself the title for the highest-grossing horror franchise in history, which is
nothing short of incredible. And although the series might seem repetitive, critics are calling it
“the scariest & most emotional chapter”. Many audience members enjoyed the film as a final
chapter for the Warrens, while some hardcore fans found it underwhelming. A recent interview
conducted with an 11th grade student at Santiago, Zac Rubalcaba, watched the film with his
girlfriend and claimed it was “The most original and authentic storyline seen yet, with great on-
edge horror factors”. The film resonated with many, especially teen movie goers, but some also
claim they are not as satisfied as with previous franchise entries. very mixed reaction from
viewers leads to the question;
Should you spend your money on this award-winning film? The answer depends on your
personal views, and expectations. It may be a good teen date movie, but not for your little
siblings. It delivers strong performances, emotional scenes, and, after all, is a farewell to the
most successful horror franchise. even being rated so highly, many claim it is predictable and
played out, especially if you have seen the other films. Dramatic music and hyped up jump
scares that everyone can see coming, you may be tired of it and may walk out of the theater
unimpressed. With a two-hour-plus run time, while some may find it a plus, you might catch
yourself falling asleep when there isn’t a ghost on the screen. So, with an average adult ticket
price of around $16, It is a fantastic movie for a casual scary film enjoyer, and you just might
leave the theater wanting to see it a second time.
