Will your future career exist in 10 years? Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become more popular and is becoming an everyday tool for many people. There are many forms of AI, such as Meta, ChatGPT, Gemini, and many more. AI is technology that enables computers to simulate human learning, comprehension, problem-solving, decision-making, creativity, and autonomy. You can practically ask AI any question, and it will have an answer for you. It can also generate pictures or videos. Â
Many people predict that AI may take over our jobs. Artificial intelligence is reshaping how work gets done across many industries. There are some jobs that cannot be replaced, the ones that do not require computing. AI is best at automating routine, repetitive, and predictable tasks. This makes certain jobs more likely and possible to be replaced or significantly changed in the near future. As for clerical and administrative roles, such as data entry, filing, and scheduling, AI is likely to replace them since it would be cheaper, and AI can perform these tasks faster. For retail cashiers and customer service reps, self-checkout systems and AI chatbots are already replacing most of these functions. Also, for bookkeeping and accounting, AI accounting software can track transactions and generate reports without human oversight. AI can even handle telemarketing or other call-center roles, since it can handle scripted conversations. It can also take over research tasks, as AI can now scan contracts or databases faster than humans. These trends propose that roles focused purely on repetitive tasks are the most vulnerable.Â
Jobs that require movement, or deep human judgment or creativity are much less likely to be automated. Healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and therapists will never be replaced, as they require a person to be there, a human connection, and fast decision-making. Therapists also need to understand human feelings and what it is like to be human, or in other words, to empathize. AI could never replace skilled trades, such as electricians, plumbers, construction industry, the cosmetic industry, and other hands-on jobs. These jobs require physical skills that a computer cannot do easily. While AI possibly could replace digital artists, designers, writers, and directors, it is very unlikely to do so. I think it may upset many people that the work is unoriginal and lacks soul or true creativity. AI could never replace jobs involving leadership, ethics, or interpersonal negotiation, such as those of judges, negotiators, and managers, or roles that require human reasoning. Many of these jobs may use AI as a tool in the future, but most likely will never be replaced by it. These are careers where human quality is still irreplaceable.
Many people are very worried that AI will take over the careers they want to pursue. It is never good for an economy to have a high unemployment rate. However, I choose to see it as a good thing; our world is advancing, and these tools could seriously save our lives someday and really help us advance. However, we or future generations should do everything we can to ensure that AI is used in moderation and does not control our world. Creativity should still exist. As long as the government uses these tools in moderation and keeps our citizens safe, I think it is a great thing. Younger generations should consider these facts and pursue a field less likely to be replaced by AI.
