On March 12, 2026, two people, a man and a woman, were found deceased after a downtown riverside stabbing that Thursday morning. 

What Happened on March 12, 2026?

Early that Thursday morning, at about 2 a.m., officers reported to a “person down” (according to abc7.com) call, and at the scene of Main and 12th streets, 2 wounded victims were found, as reported by the Riverside Police Department. As soon as paramedics arrived at this gruesome sight, they pronounced both victims dead at the scene, but the victims themselves could not be identified immediately.

The placement of the scene was reported to be that one body was found near 12th and Main, while the other was found on Orange Street just south of 12th Street. People who had seen these two people had made statements that the victims were homeless people who had often been seen sleeping around the area where they were found by paramedics. For example, an anonymous man who has asked to remain unknown to the public who works in the area had stated, “I just know that he sleeps outside of the jury parking and everybody loves him,” followed by, “He’s been out there for years, and we give him blankets and food, and he was always a happy guy.” At the time of the initial arrest, these facts were yet to be confirmed, but later on, the police officially stated that the two victims were “local homeless individuals known to frequent the downtown area.”

What have police officials and detectives had to say? And the progress of the case?

A member of the Riverside Police Department, Detective Steven Espinosa, revealed that the relationship between the two victims has not been identified, and it remains unclear whether the two may have any connection to each other. 

Espinosa also stated to the public, “There was mention of a stabbing in the initial call, but it’s undetermined at this time if it truly was a stabbing or not.” This revealed to the public that it had not been confirmed what actually happened on the day of the stabbing, but it has been confirmed that the suspect, Cesar Aguirre, was arrested for two counts of murder for the fatal stabbing of both victims.

Espinosa also said publicly, “My understanding is that they are looking for a suspect at this time, so based on what the initial investigation has determined, they are seeking footage and description of a suspect.” This made it clear that detectives were searching for even possible suspects directly after the stabbing, which further explains the extent to which Orange Street was shut down between 10th and 12th streets for more than a couple of hours for the investigation. 

A motive for this attack has not yet been identified, but the suspect, Cesar Aguirre, is in custody for these crimes and is being held without bail.

Detective Steven Espinosa has officially released a statement asking the public to report any information about this situation to investigators. 

“What we seek from the public is if anyone heard anything, saw anything, please reach out,” stated Espinosa.
