On February 27th, the seventh movie of the Scream franchise was released. So far, a lot of reviews haven’t been the best. Should Scream 7 have ever been released in the first place? What about any Scream after the original?

There are many critical reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Here are a few responses to the movie from critics: Kyle Smith says, “If there’s a single witty idea in the entire two-hour slog, I missed it.” Keith Phipps stated, “There just isn’t that much meta commentary you can supply for horror franchises this deep into their existence, except that they mostly suck.” Many of the other critics continue to say that Scream 7 is essentially unoriginal and boring. The critics weren’t the only ones to harshly criticize it, either. Here’s what the fans had to say: Erik L says, “well the storyline was so bad and had no connection to Sydney. Good jump scares, but way too gory and extremely violent, take children too. I should have waited to come on Prime.” A user by the name of Siddhant says, “not scary. The story was no good.”
It is fairly noticeable how many people and critics don’t find this movie amusing. These reviews are true. After the first Scream movie, the rest just started to become repetitive. Sure, they were fun to watch and maybe still had you on the edge of your seat, but it was the same storyline. However, even though it was a repetitive franchise, Scream 2-6 were still enjoyable. New characters and interesting plot twists, while still keeping that same Scream feeling. The seventh one, however, didn’t have that feeling. It had more of a cash-grabbing feeling.
An article titled “Scream 7 is the final nail in the coffin,” written by Benjamin Price, represents the same ideas. “Scream 7” is without charm or ingenuity, a tired husk of a franchise, barely clinging to life and desperately lacking in that department as well.” He stated. He then continues to say, “For the first time, the ‘Scream’ franchise has no new ideas. We’re back in a small town, where, outside of Sidney’s presence and the history she brings with her, violence seems impossible. Pine Grove looks a whole lot like Woodsboro, where the films began.” Again, the idea of repetition is being stated. Before the seventh movie, writers still found ways to make the movies exciting. In this latest one, ideas we’ve already seen before are being presented. The writing also seemed very rushed. In previous films, you can tell they wanted to keep the suspense and keep the kills mysterious. However, that is not what it was like in this recent film.
Overall, Scream 7 was a flop, and critics and fans seem to agree. The plot didn’t make sense, the ideas were repetitive, and the writing seemed rushed. Previous scream movies had the same overall theme, but little plot twists and new characters kept them fun and alive. Do you believe that the Scream franchise can be saved? Or should Scream 7 be the end of the series?
