Sharks’ First Football Game 2016

Sharks First Football Game 2016

Christian Moore

The Sharks’ first football game occurred on August 26. We played Murrieta Valley, the final score being 55 to 31 with a win for Murrieta.

Murrieta scored first, making an easy TD pass for 25 yards.  Then late in the first quarter, the Sharks bounced back with a TD pass of their own from Garcia. In the beginning of the second quarter the Sharks scored off of a turnover, leaving the scoreboard at 14-1. However, we gave up a kickoff return for a TD, tying it at 14-14. Then Murrieta Valley scored off a TD pass to retake the lead. Following this discouraging play, the Sharks put themselves in great field position but failed to take advantage of this.

In the final 40 seconds of the first half, our boys constructed a good drive and got the field goal conversion to shorten the deficit at halftime. In the second half, Murrieta scored another TD pass. At that point the score was 28-17 and the game was getting a little out of hand. Murrieta tried a sneaky play by having the kicker trying an onside kick, allowing them to score again. The Sharks bit back with a few strong plays, yet were unable to prevent Murrieta’s next two TDs.

The Sharks may have not been on their A game, but it was only the first game of the season. If we can polish up our defense, there’s certainly hope for the next round.
