Scream 1 came out in 1996, and it was a hit. Ahead of its time, critics and audiences loved it.
The concept of two killers was new and exciting, something people hadn’t seen before; it was
fresh. Of course, when the first movie was that big a hit, bringing in hundreds of millions in
Revenue made the creators want to make more and more, and that’s exactly how we landed
on Scream 7, following Scream 2, then 3 and 4, after that 5, continuing with 6, ending up where
We are now, and while the original film was great, the following have only become repetitive.
Recycling around the same main character, Sydney Prescott, and her life. I mean, seriously, at
one point, the creators really need to leave poor Sydney alone; she’s had her fair share of
manic knife-wielding serial killers, give the girl her happy ending already…. At some point, I feel
it is really unnecessary to add her back into the plot; it just drags the franchise out.

As good as the original movie was, at least until after Scream 3, the movies just haven’t lived up to their name. The original concept of having multiple killers has gotten boring and repetitive. Especially since they all still circle the original narrative, I mean, it’s been 20 years, and the
movies still follow her and the other characters around in some way, and let’s not forget the same old storyline; dramatic reveal that it’s one of the original suspects who got brutally wounded and was actually in the inner circle, obsessed with slasher films. The movies do, however, rake in some good money, so it’s understandable why the directors can’t just give it up.
Sydney- a rest. Let’s take a look at these numbers:

Strictly speaking, these are some pretty big numbers, especially since Scream 7 surpassed the original 1996 movie, making it one of the franchise’s largest grossers. The reviews, however, are pretty mixed, calling it predictable, something I cannot help but agree with. Dragging the same narrative over and over again makes it boring and expected by audiences; the directors need to get with the times. Instead of making the least “guessable” killer, they should focus on new and original storylines. Because the recent screams just feel like regular old slasher films.

What started as a creative and brand new piece of work has now turned into a money-raking,
predictable and wrung out franchise… Maybe the creators need to let “Scream” rest, once and
For all, because all the true slasher lovers have had enough.
