School lunches have always been a source of varying opinions. Its quality and appearance has repeatedly been brought into question by students at Santiago and has assumed a rather negative reputation over the years. However, with the returning presence of Pizza Hut to Santiago High School lunches, overall impressions have been slowly changing towards the contrary.

“Now that Pizza Hut has begun to serve lunch, the food has become much more appetizing,” says Dante Amodeo (9), who is a frequent purchaser of Santiago lunches now that a “more appetizing” pizza is currently being served. Many Sharks have become much more open to the concept of buying lunch from the school with a more familiar and recognizable provider.

“The school lunches used to be disgusting,” says Chris Saba (9), “ Now they are a lot better.” Like Amodeo, he purchases Pizza Hut for lunch at school daily.

Even still, the other available options for lunch still cause controversy, which diminish the quality of the food being served in the CNUSD. Recently, hamburgers and hot dogs have become available, and are prepared on a flat top griddle at C building in the quad. Some students find this option credible enough, but still continue to criticize the remaining dishes. Moreover, others are still adamant that none of the existing lunch options are worth $2.50.

“They are terrible. They need more nutrition and they need to be a higher quality,” says Antony Mora (9). Regardless of relative tastes and opinions, the lunches are here to stay. With several students now impressed with their supposed rising quality, the district could arguably be taking a step in the right direction with school lunches.
