Monday, March 7th, the Sharks beat the Poly Bears in a 3 to 7 win. The game started off quietly in the first 3 innings. In the top of the 4th, Poly’s third baseman hit a homer with two runners on base to make it 3 to nothing. Then in the bottom of the 5th Ryan Knowles (12) and Jacob Shanks (10) cleared the bases to make it 3-6 instantly. Then towards the end of the game Casey Dykstra (11) scored to make it 3-7, which was the final score, off a nice base hit down the first base line.
Overall I think the sharks played better as the game progressed through the innings. Their chemistry was good and they looked like they took care of business. Our pitcher Ryan Rutherford (12) had 5 clean strikeouts. Our defense only gave up 4 hits and we had 8. The first 5 innings was basically Ryan striking out batters left and right. In fact it felt like he should have had more than 5 strikeouts. It’s pretty tough to decide which was the key to winning our first game of the season. They just played great baseball both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
It might be too early to tell, but if we keep playing like this we will have a superb chance to not only make the playoffs and be successful. The Sharks played well and dominated the entire game- definitely a great start to your season, Sharks!
