University of Connecticut’s Women’s Basketball team made history on Tuesday night in a 82-51 national title game win against Syracuse. They now hold the longest consecutive and active national title win streak in women’s D-1 basketball. UConn women also hold the second spot with 3 consecutive title wins, from 2002-2004.
Not only did they just win their fourth consecutive national title, they did it while being undefeated, 38-0. This was their 6th undefeated season in program history, and now have a winning streak of 75 games.
3 out of the 5 starters for the Huskies; Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck, are the only players in both men’s and women’s NCAA college basketball history to win four titles. Additionally, Breanna Stewart won her fourth most outstanding player award, making her college experience admirable.
The UConn Women’s Basketball team wouldn’t have been able to do this without their incredible coach, Geno Auriemma. All 11 of his titles have been with UConn, along with a 90 game win streak that ended in 2011.
Not only did they finish this season undefeated, they are also undefeated in national title games, with a record of 11-0.
Even if you’re not a UConn fan, you have to agree that this is one of the most impressive achievements in basketball history.
