On April 6, 2016 the Santiago Sharks went up against rival Norco in a Big 8 league clash at Santiago high school. The Sharks came into the game with an 8-6 overall record and a Big 8 best 3-0 in league. The Sharks are also ranked 34 in the state and 138 in the nation despite losing a heartbreaker in walk off fashion against Huntington Beach a few days prior in the Boras Classic tournament.

#15 Corey Allan(12) started the game strong giving up only one run on one hit in the first inning and recorded two strike outs in the process. On the offensive side of the ball the Sharks started hot getting nine runs in the first on seven hits and four walks including a leadoff ground rule double from#1 Brice Turang(10).

In the second and the third the Sharks only gave up two hits with no runs including a 3 and out inning in the second while the Sharks offense gained four more runs on five hits including RBI singles from #10 Jacob Shanks(10) and #8 N. Burtrum(12) making the score 13-1. In the Fourth neither team could muster up any offense with both teams only able to get one hit.

The fifth inning began defensively for the Sharks with relief pitcher #16 Zachary Bennett getting a 3 and out inning on three fly outs. In the same inning Santiago’s offense was able to add one run on to their tremendous lead. In the sixth and seventh innings #16 Z. Bennett finished the game nicely only allowing one walk and getting four strikeouts.

Santiago was able to extend their undefeated league record with a blowout victory against Big 8 rival Norco winning 14-1. The team now looks to extend their league success when they go up against rival team Roosevelt high school at Santiago high school on April 8, 2016.
