On Friday May 22, 2016 the Sharks’ varsity baseball team kicked off their postseason against Huntington Beach. The game did not go so well for the Sharks, we lost 5-2. So many things went bad for the Sharks. We gave up a first inning homerun to players who used to play in the Little League World Series. Our pitcher Manny Perez (12) hit 2 batters early in the game, we gave up more than 6 base hits, and we only had 4 base hits. The only thing that really happened was junior Jacob Shanks doubled in the top of the forth. We thought we would gain a little more momentum after the double, but instead it turned out to be the only good thing that we have done. The rest of the game was just Huntington Beach dominating.
Our offense was just bad and quiet. None of our good players showed up and it sucks because this was a playoff game. It’s kind of sad because they worked so hard to get to this point and make it to the playoffs and then be eliminated on the first day. Its almost like all of it was for nothing. Also, to put up a performance like that in the first playoff game is just terrible. I definitely would rather have them lose in a close game than a blow out and not even be a competitive game.
I will say this though; Coach D did in fact rally his squad and motivated them to play their best game. But unfortunately it just wasn’t our day. So I guess there is always next season. Catcher Jacob Shanks and right fielder Casey Dykstra (11) might be our key players to help us next season. I am confident that we can come right back to the playoffs and perform much better than we did last Friday. Maybe we can go further into the playoffs next year.
