According to Forbes 2025, the number of billionaires worldwide has reached a record 3,028; these billionaires combined hold about 16.1 trillion USD in net worth. This wealth is most certainly not evenly distributed around the world. Some areas have way more than others. The United States has one of the largest concentrations, a whopping 905 billionaires with a total net worth of 7.8 trillion USD.
Now, keeping that in mind, imagine what would happen if every single one of these billionaires, after keeping 900 million USD for themselves, which is more than enough to allow them to lead a very comfortable life, donated everything else. That would be around 13-15 trillion USD channeled into programs worldwide to help people and the planet.
This would dramatically change the world, but let’s weigh the pros and cons and see what exactly it could do:
With these trillions of their wealth re-distributed, as donations, into affordable housing, social services, and Medicare, it could lift millions of Americans and hundreds of millions worldwide out of poverty. This narrowing of the World Cup would create jobs and significantly reduce household debt.
A large proportion of it would fund Universal Health Care, Access to healthcare in underserved US regions, and efforts in third-world countries facing water, food, and disease crises. Potentially boosting the average lifespan and overall well-being of people worldwide, and eradicating 5-6 common diseases in third-world countries (only if their governments acted responsibly) and impoverished states, allowing them to enter the modern era.
With enough money, it would be possible to invest in renewable energy and environmentally sustainable technology. Both would greatly help the planet and even create new jobs, with new investments and possibly innovations, if the funds went into the right sciences to develop new renewable technologies.
If such a significant redistribution of wealth were to occur, Large monopolies and companies that single-handedly dominate industries would decrease significantly, allowing room for new startups and allowing small businesses as well as entrepreneurs to flourish, creating a balanced economy that could potentially provide more for the country, and then these billionaires do
Why Does This Matter?
The United States remains a country with one of the largest concentrations of billionaires, all holding enough money to own half of the total global billionaire wealth, which is around 7-8 trillion dollars.
Recently approved policies, like tax cuts & hands-off policies, all made to regulate a better economy, are what keep these billionaires at the top 1%
If these tax cuts and other regulations are kept, the gap between an average household and the ultra wealthy will only widen, and not widen by a couple of million dollars; we’re talking hundreds of billions of dollars…
What Could This Potential “Reset” Do?
Well, for starters, the amount of money is so huge that it could send our economy into a crash, liquidating trillions into real money. That’s because these billionaires don’t just keep their money in safes or bank accounts; they invest in real estate, stocks, and other assets. To work to the fullest, every government would have to use money fairly, ensure it reaches the right people, and avoid ending up in the pockets of corrupt politicians. Ending billionaires as a whole does not mean that big corporations wouldn’t exist; ownership would change and expand, but these huge companies would still dominate the market.
Our economy would regulate itself, like we saw with the great depression and almost any other economy crash, it could take a decade or two at most but it would result in a very stable economy, if new businesses were to pop up everywhere and eventually become successful, countries would have a very diverse and stable economy, (if one business went down it wouldn’t affect the economy too much) one that would be dominated by many, creating instead a top 0.003-4%. Not to mention, the wealth gap with the average person would be much smaller than it is today.
As unrealistic as this scenario is, it’s not impossible, and if it were to happen one day…it would definitely change the world as we know it.
